Slow Firefox 3, how to speed up Firefox 3
A very easy fix for 90% of speed and access related problems associated with a slow Firefox 3 install. We experienced a momentary lag before loading pages (hugely frustrating when you load A LOT of pages a day) - anyway, without further a do, here’s the fix.
Create a Profile
- Close down Firefox, you can grab a copy of these instructions in .txt format to view offline
- START > RUN > Type in :
firefox.exe -ProfileManager - From the newly opened dialog box (you won’t see this dialog box if you try this with Firefox open), Create a new profile
- Save and exit the dialog
- Now go and try Firefox
I said it was an easy fix! 
Still not working?
If the above fix didn’t solve your problem, then try running Firefox in Safemode.
Again, you will have to close down all instances of Firefox, then go to START > All Programs > from the Mozilla Firefox folder in the Menu tree > Select Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)
From the new dialog, tick all the boxes to make sure you are running with only the very basics and give it a whirl. If that hasn’t fixed your problem then you will need to dig a little deeper into what is causing slow down, normally it is caused by a plugin.

It worked!!!! In the run dialog box typing “firefox.exe -ProfileManager” made it run as fast as fire fox 2. Thank you! What once was slow now is fast.

Sorry to hear that Ekaterinburg - we’ve found this to work on pretty much every machine we’ve had experience of FF3 on.
Can you supply your PC configuration… have you scanned for viruses and adware?

The problem with this idea is, that you create a fully new profile. That means….all your saved bookmarks, saved passwords and other settings (like addons, skins, plugins) are gone in the new profile.

@ Wolve - yes this will create a basic account.
The beauty being that it will allow you to add back your plugins / add-ons etc. in a test environment, without the worry of messing up your master account.
If you find you are experiencing slow down problems when adding a particular plugin / add-on you can try removing it from the main account – at the very least, it’s a useful method of finding the rogue code.
