Our Fastest Office PC

We don’t normally push the boundaries of computer performance whilst developing websites, however, we do run some decent machines here at Voodish. (Coming soon will be the i7 980X).
One of our latest machines is up here for inspection. With a Windows 7 Experience Score of 7.7 (out of 7.9 max) it’s not a bad little performer. Under normal operating conditions it is also very, very quiet.
Specifications
The Primary drive for the Operating System (Win7 64bit Ultimate) and programs is the excellent Intel X25-M SSD drive. These new SSD drives really are the future; being sensationally quick, completely silent and using very little power, what’s not to like?
HDD’s are still very much required, unless you don’t mind spending a £3,000+ per Terabyte (October 2010)
Using 2x Western Digital Caviar Blacks in RAID1, they aren’t a bad drive, but can be a little noisy from time to time. We also have 2x 2TB Western Digital Greens for some of the larger files. All backed up to remote NAS’s daily.
We will be looking at the i7 980X chip soon, with a 6 core setup and a 25x multiplier, 5GHz Core Clock might not be out of the question, although I’m sure the cooling may have to be revised to reach that sort of speed
Anyway, a picture speaks a thousand words, so here are some …

That’s a VERY good result for a C0 920, with such low voltage. What sort of temperatures are you seeing?

With normal use through the day, the CPU is between 39C - 47C, that’s with the Fans on very low (900RPM).
Under Full load for an hour on Prime95, the Cores rise to around 70C, but that’s with the Fans on full chat.
Not bad at all for 4Ghz

@trace, you’re right, they are not the cheapest of fans, but we were reviewing a few different types and found these to be quietest and most effective at cooling the Radiator and HDD’s - the backups drives are down to 25/6C @ 900RPM

nice rig - with some voltage, you’d see 4.2/4.4, i think.

Quite possibly i8! Although we’re quite happy for it hover around the 4Ghz mark - after a few months with it now, it (knocks wood) hasn’t missed a beat.
Nice low temps and excellent performance, after you use the i7 at this clock, the standard speed has noticeable lag; hugely recommended

sweeeet! i wish those SSD’s would come down, those Intel ones seem to be the fastest - they haven’t dropped in price at all since June 2010.
