Cloned Monkey
Posted: November, 27 2007Scientists have cloned monkey embryos for the first time, bringing human cloning a step closer. They created dozens of embryos from a 10-year-old rhesus macaque monkey and planted them into surrogate primates.

All the animals miscarried but the cloned stem cells were grown into heart and neuron cells at the Oregon National Primate Research Centre.
Prof Alison Murdoch, of the North East England Stem Cell Institute, said:
This development takes us closer to producing stem cells to treat life-limiting conditions.
