Accessible Search Engine

Paul Crichton

Paul Crichton is a director of net-progress, a web analytic’s consultancy based in London.

He developed www.net-guide.co.uk, an accessible search engine that only lists accessible websites. net-guide was awarded ‘See it Right’ accreditation by the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB). Google has since adopted a similar idea for an accessible search engine.

Paul has also worked with RNIB to promote fair access to digital information for all, and, in 2005, helped to bring an Early Day Motion before the House of Commons regarding web accessibility.

He writes regularly for Ability Magazine (a campaigning publication for people who have difficulty using information technology) and has also written for Wiley Interscience’s Biotechnology journal.

Paul says: “When not feeding my inner geek, I like to nurture my outer nerd, enjoying ancient history, reading, being baffled by New Scientist, listening to and making dubious music as well as expanding my collection of misuses of the word “literally.”
